Where is P.O.E.T. located?
We are a foster based rescue. That means that we do not have a kennel or main facility to house our dogs. We have foster homes all over the Metro-Detroit/Tri-County area. Our P.O.E.T. dogs are in foster homes so we can evaluate the dog to find out what type of forever home environment is best for them and they can receive the best care possible until they find their forever homes.
We do have a P.O. Box for mail correspondence.

How can I meet a P.O.E.T. dog?
If you are interested in a specific dog, fill out an application online. If you are just browsing, check out our adoption event on the main page (scroll to the bottom) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/POETAnimalRescue) and find an event near you. If there is a particular dog you are interested in meeting, please let us know so we can try to make arrangements for that dog to be at an upcoming event.
What is the adoption process?
- Fill out an adoption application.
- We will then call and do a vet check on any current & past pets.
- A home visit will be done in order to match the right dog to the right home.
- A meet and greet of the dog(s) of interest will be arranged.
- Adoption contract signed, if applicable, spay/neuter contract signed and adoption fee collected.

We accept monetary donations as well as donations of crates, food, treats, blankets, toys, leashes, collars, bedding, cleaning supplies, bottles and cans, and anything else that could be useful to us. Fostering: We survive on our foster homes! For each additional foster home we have, we can save an additional dog. Foster families take in animals that have been rescued from shelters, or surrendered by their owners, and help them get ready to live in a family home. You can choose the size, age, type of dog you are willing to help and we will try to accommodate your needs. Please fill out a foster application to help our cause.
Volunteering: In order for us to have a smooth running rescue we need our volunteers! Here are a couple different ways to volunteer: participating in home visits; transporting dogs to and from, vet appointments, foster’s homes and adoption events. These things can be done when you have the time and you can commit to only those that fit your schedule, please consider taking some time out to help!
Any pit or pit mixed puppy may only be adopted out to a person or persons over 21 and you must own your home. Proof of home ownership is required at time of home visit/adoption.
